Aphorisms for Artists by Walter Darby Bannard

Aphorism #66

Originality is overrated.

To make you need to take. All great artists do.

You can choose to be different—this is commonplace these days—but you cannot choose to be original. Originality is less a matter of “newness” than a byproduct of accepting what is available and making it better.

If you have no place to go, stay home.
