Aphorisms for Artists by Walter Darby Bannard

Aphorism #26

There is no best way to make art, but there are a lot of better ways.

If a best way was evident and could be specified, it would have been patented long ago.

On the surface we are each different. Deep down, we are all the same. Art comes up from that deep place.

Getting there is like going through a jungle to reach a gold mine. Every artist has to find his own path, but the gold at the end is valuable for everyone.

Previous: A work of art is never finished, it is abandoned.

Next: Talent without opportunity is like electricity without a light bulb.
