Aphorisms for Artists by Walter Darby Bannard

Aphorism #45

Art, like law, politics, people and food, should always be judged case by case.

In making or seeing art, everything comes down to the judgment of the moment. Every picture, new or old, hanging in a museum or sitting unfinished in your studio, is always brand new.

The only thing that counts in art is what happens the moment you experience it.

Previous: Always steal from other artists, but never steal from yourself.

Next: Good art is what it is, not what you want it to be.
