Aphorisms for Artists by Walter Darby Bannard

Aphorism #76

In art, as in life, the best way to remedy mistakes is to take advantage of them.

The nice thing about art is that it is much easier to deal with mistakes. In life there are consequences. In art, you just cover it up.

But covering up the mistake may be a mistake. Step back and check it out. Is it actually telling you something you don’t want to know about your art?

Opportunity is always knocking, but you have to hear it.

Previous: An argument about art is not won until it helps someone see.

Next: Making art is like making love. If you think about meaning you lose it.
